Be Good, Have Fun & Stay Safe, Beckton Neighbourhood Team Did you know? Every crime has a specific legal definition, and each definition requires specific "points to prove" for that crime to be complete. Take Theft, for example: A person is guilty of theft if they dishonestly appropriate property belonging to another, with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it. To secure a conviction, we must prove that: There was property. It was appropriated (taken). The appropriation was dishonest. The property belonged to another person. The thief intended to permanently deprive them of it (keep it or destroy it).If even one of those points cannot be proven, the case will not survive in court! |
